Sites for Mobile Devices

Whether you have a mobile specific site or not your main web site should be adapted to function well, or at least reasonably, on any smart/mobile device (iPhone, Droid, Blackberry, iPad etc.) If a mobile user can not see or navigate your site you have lost a potential customer.

It is very frustrating for a mobile user to go to a site and find it doesn't work, can't be navigated or, worse, that most of the content is invisible on their mobile device. There are many ways your main site can avoid producing a bad experience for mobile users.

Among the most common problems is Flash content. iOS devices (iPhones, iPods & iPads) and many other smart devices don't run flash so any Flash content can't be seen on over 150 million iOS devices as of the beginning of 2011. That number is growing rapidly. That is a lot of potential customers you don't want to eliminate by using Flash. Also, Google does not index Flash content so you hurt yourself in the search engine rankings on your site anyway. There are plenty of good alternatives.

You can see here on the left a comparison of a site that has not been adapted. On the screen capture from an iPhone the site is clearly broken with Flash content just missing. What content is there is practically impossible to read. What you can't see is that none of the menus work.

In the images of a site that has been adapted by High Road on the right you can see image content does appear, much of the text and menus are readable. On this site all menus and scrolling work regardless of if you are on a mobile device or a desktop.

You may also want a mobile specific site to go along with your main site. You can see in the image of High Road's mobile site that the pages are well laid out to be readable on the mobile device. Content and navigation are simple.

Your adapted site and your mobile site should work as a team providing users the content they want or need on a mobile site and a way to get a fuller, richer experince on a desktop and on the mobile device too if they chose.

High Road can adapt your site to mobile devices and create mobile specific sites to help you reach more potential custiomers. Contact us for a quote and see how good we can make you look.
